Mutual benefits: Jobbik ‘s pro-Iranian policy

While Jobbik politicians are keen to characterize others as representatives of “foreign interests”, in the past few years this suspicion has been leveled most vigorously precisely against this far-right party. In our previousanalysis we were focusing on the Russian connections of Jobbik and other far-right parties. In this piece, we examine the relationship between Jobbik and Iran. From Iran’s perspective, Jobbik may be seen as a way to enter into European politics. On the other hand, the party’s close ties with Russia, also pursuing an Iran-friendly policy, gives the Hungarian far-right party a strong boost, and with such “friends” in tow the party cannot be easily sidelined in the domestic political arena either.
